Kopete notifications

Kopete version 0.70.90 running on KDE 4.3 in Kubuntu.
I currently have both identi.ca and friendfeed as "buddies". Those 2 are very high traffic and I don't always need/want to read their posts. I currently have Kopete global notifications set so there is no notification for new messages. Even with nothing set, the task bar gets marked for new messages which is not what I want. I have checked that neither group nor individual notifications are set.
I have my buddy's set up in groups. identi.ca and friendfeed are in their own group (General). I have other groups Friends, Family, Work, etc. For these groups I have set the groups to notify me when I receive an incoming message. This does not work though. I want messages from my Family to ping, Pop up, and Mark the taskbar. All that happens is the task bar is marked which also happens as I said above.
How can I get the "general" group to have no notifications and the other groups to notify?
