How does KDE / konqueror determine the filename on preview thumbnails,

Hello all;

	I am doing some research and I can't find the answer,... yet.

KDE/konqueror stored preview thumbnail images of file in the directory 
/home/user/.thumbnail/[large|normal]

Each of these files seems to have a hash value for the filename. The
extension is always ".png".  What is the hash algorithm used to create
the filename.
