Where are File Associations kept?

rethinking this part, being that each user has ability to make their own
associations, there may well be files under '`/.kde'. [left off '.kde'
in other post]

so this would tend to indicate 2 association files. 1 for defaults and
1 for user.

my apologizes for not giving further thought to my 1st post. i am up for 
about 45 minutes and in process of fixing my mum breakfast.

will fix me some coffee and get my head back around.
