That is now being handled by nepomuk and as long as the nepomuk integration is 
working correctly, much of that can be set using the information sidebar.

Yes, I think display of some amount of details and metadata would be helpful.

This has been spoken about quite often lately... search the archives.

Yes, its a known bug. A regression.
