Multiple sessions

After messing things up I reinstalled kde 3.5.9
This time, during setup, I chose not to use Compiz
Now I can switch users but for one detail: kmix can't find mixer in the second 
user's session.
I think is something regarding permissions....
So I'll keep searching....
