konqueror, mail links, and kmail

(Sorry if this is a repeat - I didn't see it on the list.) I'm running an 
older, slower computer  and have noticed that when I click a 
mailto link in Konqueror it takes a very long time for the kmail service to 
load for the new kmail message to appear so that I can start composing. Even 
if I have kmail open. Granted, this is a slow computer but it seems odd to me 
that my computer has to chug away in this instance. Any clues?
