JPEG unknown to KDE

Hi,

for some days KDE doesn't recognize JPEG-Files independent of their suffix 
(.jpg,.JPEG...): konqi doesn't show icons for such files, and clicking file 
names starts up applications which really doesn't deal with graphics.

I supposed file type settings to be lost, but running kcontrol shows that 
jpegs are fairly registered with some graphic apps assigned, so it should 
work.

Any suggestions?
