Adding icon/button to 'task bar'

Sorry I never remember the proper KDE terms.

I have a number buttons on my 'task bar' for launching common applications.  I 
can add more buttons to this, but only for applications that are already in 
my menu.  

Is it possible to add applications that are not in the menu?  How?
