problems with kprinter print preview

Hi, 
 
just tried to get a print preview before printing and had to find out that the 
print preview window only shows the print and cancel button on the left and 
nothing more, only a grey window. I am using suse 9.3 and kde 3.4.2. 
any suggestion on where to look would be appreciated.
