Opening from ftp in kate via konqueror

Hello,

In the past, I have been able (I think) to browse an ftp server in konqueror
and then open a file directly in kate.

However, when I try it on a more recent install, konquerer downloads the file
in /var/tmp/kde-cache... and kate immediately gives me an error saying that
the file "was changed (deleted) on disk by another program!"

Any advice on what might be wrong or how I need to change my configuration?
