KDE apps PATH environment variable

Sorry guys. Something told me I was being way too laconic in that message. Of 
course, I told nothing about my environment. I'm using KDE 3.3.1 on Debian 
Sid.
I don't use startkde to start KDE. It's /bin/init who starts kdm and then kdm 
starts KDE. Where do I put the setting?
