There's some thing else I forgot to mention.  When I goto Control Panel, Sound 
& Multimedia, Sound System and click Test Sound, it plays fine.  Just the 
notifications don't work.  Which leads me to belive the root cause of the 
problem is Knotify.  When I tried starting knotify in Konsole I get this.
