How to correctly shutdown kde-3.5 from console?

Ctrl-Alt-Del (from the console) will cleanly shut down Linux, 
but Ctrl-Alt-Backspace just kills the X Server (and the running apps) 
which is not so clean. 
It may result in loss of unsaved data, and session management 
won't work.  I use it myself at times, but only when I'm sure I 
know what I'm doing ...
