normal user problem

hi all!

i gentoo installed on my comp with KDE 3.4. All the sound works fine in 
root account but the same fail to work in normal user account. Also my 
gaim crashes in normal account but works fine in root account. The same 
also holds true for other applications like kontact.
Kindly suggest a solution. What changes have to be made in the normal user 
accnt.
