aterm transparency success?

There's a couple threads on other users having the same troubles with
aterm and transparencies.  I wondered if anyone else had any success
with the problem?

Instead of taking the transparency from the current background (a
slide show I configured in the kde bg control panel), it takes the
background transparency from the *kdm* background image.

After upgrading kde, I also tried recompiling XFree86, aterm, and lots
of other deps with no effect.

Anyone found a fix?
