.xinitrc, .Xresources, dpi setting

I didn't read the original question so I'm just guessing here. If you
want to execute commands when KDM is started, just edit (in Debian at
least) /etc/kde3/kdm/Xsetup and put whatever commands you want in there.
I launch my VNC server at this point.
