PDF application/octet-stream

Hi,

I have the following problem with some pdf files, can somebody help me?

It's something to do with file types, but I can't figure out what's wrong.

Apparently some (but not all!) pdf are regarded as type
application/octet-stream instead of application/pdf. But as far as I can see
the file associations are correctly set to *.pdf -> application/pdf

Is there any other setting that defines the type of a file?

When clicking on them, it doesn't start kghostview but asks for a program.
selecting kghostview then tells me that the file has type
"application/octet-stream" and kghostview can't handle the file. Also from
inside kghostview I can't open them. File names are something like:
Heft_00_1.pdf so there is nothing unususal here.
(Sorry I can't provide test files, because they contain information..)

This happens only with *some* pdfs. Most of my pdf files work as expected.
Some of the strange ones definitely worked before, but I can't say when that
stopped working. I can open all of them with acroread.

In the file association, *.pdf and *.PDF is set to application/pdf, and
kghostview as the default viewer, and acroread as an alternative. On the
other hand, application/octet-stream has no filename pattern defined.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Stephan
