windows sticking to a specific desktop ?

I would like to configure my windows settings so that certain apps 
always open in a specific desktop (eg development tools on desktop #1, 
mail & gaim on #2, etc.) rather than the current desktop.

I am using KDE 3.2 with kwin as window manager

is there a way of doing that ?
