Unfortunately (and only for now) yes. Next machine will be Gentoo. :)

Yes, I tried that after advice from #kde on irc.freenode.net, and it worked. 
I'm still building on this slow machine, but that has been the only snag so 
far. Hopefully that will be the only glitch for the build. :)
