Drag-n-drop to the desktop

I have two systems, both running KDE. One is 3.1.3-6.2 Red Hat on RHEL
V3.0. The other one I don't have access to right now so can't give the
exact version but I believe it is a little older. It is whatever came
from Red Hat 9.0.

On the RH 9.0 system when I drag an icon to the desktop it stays right
where it "lands". On the RHEL V3.0 system the dropped icon scoots way
over to the left. This I don't like! Is there a configuration option
somewhere? If so, I can't find it.
