I think I have found the answer:
When I click on a link in a mail from kmail, konqueror is started and also I
find about 5 or 6 kio_http slaves (or threads?).
When I close konqueror, they still live for a while, but are after a timeout
terminated.
So it seems this delayed removal is on purpose.
