First, you configure Kicker -- Right click: "Configure Panel" --  so that 
you have a taskbar at the top of the screen and then just click the: 
"Minimize" button (the dot) which is at the upper right of the window by 
default.

NOTE: the "desktop menu" is not a taskbar and you can't do this with that.
