No Sound KDE

Thanks again Scott, I do appreciate you guys making sure I fully understand.
That the 'cables' have come loose since the "ram dump" might be a
possibility,
But when I can read data CDs and burn data CDs [ I use cdrecord from the
konsole for that ] then I doubt there are any physical problems going
on. Yes I have tested these CDs as they are ISO's for other OSs that can
be run from CDs, and they run very well as well. Now, they do not run
from the hard drive. {eg. Knoppix3.2 ]
One important note to consider maybe, I have two Hard drives AND two
CDROMS. I had to get the local computer tech to make me up an extra
cable to ensure all four had their relevant power supplies. Since then I
have of course installed Linux and have had the KDE startup sound
running - initially. ( See initial message.) Now of course no sound from
the cdroms and I understand your concerns.
Surely there is command line work I can do to test, discover and
possibly recover stuff?
Thanks for sticking in there, greatly appreciated.
