if you dig slackware and want a "real" version of kde, i would really suggest 
gentoo (www.gentoo.org) -- it rocks from on high.  there's also debian, 
although i have no experience with it, i've heard it's great.

for example, to get the latest and greatest version of kde on gentoo, just do 
this:

  # emerge kde

and wait for the code to compile for you.  it's amazing.
