An application that can manage your installed programs and libraries which 
are installed from source.

This should use "*.la" files (where available) as well as reading the ELF 
headers and letting the user make notes.  Perhaps 'package-config' data 
would also be useful.

Basically what this needs to do is revert the dependency trees.  That is, 
you can get lists of what libraries an application uses.  But what you need 
  is something to tell you which installed applications are dependent on a 
library -- a list of everything that depends on a library.

Just a database, but one that would be quite useful for those that build 
from source.
