kdebase refuses to build without being forced, meinproc not understood in make phase

Hi Lada,

The configuration script prescribed by LinuxFromScratch for kdebase-3.x 
is
./configure --prefix=/opt/kde-3.1 --disable-debug \ 
--disable-dependency-tracking --disable-lametest --with-shadow &&
make && make install

Irun the line 
export QTDIR='/opt/qt-3.1.2' 
in a script with configuration and shortcuts.

KDEDIR(S) are not otherwise quoted.  What should I quote them to?
