Running non-KDE programs on the root window

Hi,

I've never been a KDE fan, but 3.0 opened my eyes. With 3.1 I just want
to say: Thank you, excellent job. I changed over to KDE exclusively.

Except for one thing:

I ran programs on my root window (root-tail to be exact). KDE doesn't
let me do that it seems. I have this in my .xsession:

    root-tail /home/life/var/server_log_on_mail,white &
    startkde

KDE overwrite the root window. Is there a way to accomplish this?
