KDE 3.1.2 screen-saver issue

I cannot help you with screensaver, but I suggest instead of rebooting your 
box try to login from another tty (Alt+Ctrl+F1 for example) and just kill the 
kscreensaver process.
This has worked for me (when I was using a password too long to fit in the 
screensaver's textbox :-)).
