Yes, asking rpm with
 rpm -q qt3 and rpm -qp RPM/i386/qt3-3.1.2.....
did give the same string (as far, as I could make out by viewing it - did
not diff or use "od").

With my production harddisk I also succeeded. There I did not need to
- --replacepcks and --force, because I did not first install the qt3.1.2
rpm, but directly started to build them from srpm.

I think that our/my problem was caused, that altough I only used SuSE rpm
to update to new X and KDE versions, my system was not equipped with the
same versions of libraries, as the SuSE reference system, where they build
the qt...

I also forwarded my solution to my (closed as irelevant) kde-bug report
and to trolltech-bug.
