You can still have tis behaviour, if you remove the "new message" action 
from the toolbar and replace it with the "post message" action.

I personally like the new way better, as you can now send a new message 
without switching to one of your private folders first.

Post message is the second menu entry in the Message menu (KMail 1.5)

Reply to mailinglist differs a lot from group reply.
I think you use group reply here, which resulted in _three_ mails, one to 
kde at mail.kde.org, one to kde at ktown.kde.org and one to my mail address.
