Lock screen doesn't work

Hi all,

can somebody give me a hint where to look at, when my "lock screen" action 
doesn't do anything (regardless of klicked in the K-Menu, the desktop menu or 
kicker applet) ?

I'm using KDE 3.1 compiled from source on RedHat 7.2, gcc 2.96
