Spell checking with KWord1.2.92 problem

Is there a problem with spell checking in KWord1.2.92, please?

I have this version in two distros and whenever I try to spell check, KWord 
just crashes.

I have tried ISpell and ASpell with different combinations of Dictionary, 
Encoding and Client. Occasionally it will spell check the first word and then 
not check any more, but usually it just crashes with a SEG fault.

If anyone has got it to work, I would be pleased to hear how you did it. I 
need it to "en-GB" spell check, as I daren't send out any letters or 
documents without them being checked for spelling!
