kde 3.1.1 Redhat 8

I tried
rpm -qa | grep build
came back with
rpm-build-4.1-1.06
so I seem to have it I tied all of the latest ideas they all come back with 
--target is not an option
/usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i686
has nothing in it should it.

I have tried
rpm --rebuild --target i686 kdebase-3.1.1-0.8x.src.rpm
rpm --rebuild --target=i686 kdebase-3.1.1-0.8x.src.rpm
rpm -rebuild -target i686 kdebase-3.1.1-0.8x.src.rpm
rpm -rebuild -target=i686 kdebase-3.1.1-0.8x.src.rpm
rpm --rebuild i686 kdebase-3.1.1-0.8x.src.rpm
rpm -rebuild i686 kdebase-3.1.1-0.8x.src.rpm
and so far none seem to work giving me problems, they all give me something 
like
--rebuild: unknown option
or
--target: unknown option

I think this should be preaty simple but still with no success.  I just want 
to get it up and running with kde 3.1.1 I have kde 3.0.3 that came with 
redhat already installed.
