The general format of config files is explained on:

.desktop files in particular are described on	
http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/desktop-entry-spec/desktop-entry-spec.html

The KDE menu consists of the .desktop files under $KDEDIR/share/applnk

RedHat 8.x does things different though, see

Notifications can be enabled / disabled by adding 
	X-KDE-StartupNotify=true
to the .desktop file.
