I'm surprised that you lost some messages. The bug in the package 
shouldn't cause message loss.

Using the 3.0.x version will most likely lead to strange crashes (I 
already had to close a few bug reports because people where using KMail 
from KDE 3.0 with KDE 3.1). It would be better to use the 3.1 version 
of the kdenetwork package which is still available at ftp.kde.org (and 
it's mirrors).

SuSE promised to release fixed packages soon.
