Kmail Stability

After upgrading from RH7.2 to 7.3 I noticed that kmail no longer continues
performing foreground processing while doing POP downloads. I've poked around
in the kmail configuration to see if this is an option, but didn't find
anything. Am I simply insane or has something changed? And is this possibly
the problem to which the ISP is referring?
By the way, I've been using kmail for several years now and think it's great.
Thanks,
Mike
