Who to get rid of background bars in Konqueror?

I have Konqueror set to multi-column view, with small icons and a white 
background.  As I navigate around the background will arbitrarily change to 
one with light colored bars (kind of like the old green bar paper).  I 
can change display back to all white but there is no telling when the bars 
will pop back up.  

How can I get rid of the bars permanently?
