qt 3.1 and Xft

You, I presume, mean Xft2.  A little research, and a very LARGE problem 
on my system, have lead me to Keith Packard's statement that Pango and 
Xft2 will NOT work together as Pango is only for Xft1.

Perhaps that is the problem, or part of it.

Could "snpe" uninstall Pango, and reinstall Xft-2 and Xft-devel-2 and 
see if that fixes the problem.
