writing (french) accents with a QWERTY keyboard

 Hi all,

 I just upgraded to KDE 3.0.4.
 I work with a qwerty keyboard despite my being french and, whereas I was
 able to type a  "é" with KDE 2 by typing
 <windows>+' e
 It doesn't work anymore with KDE3 (same problem with every accent I try to
 type). I didn't change my XF86Config-4 at all during the upgrade so I
 thought it might be KDE related.
 Is this feature disabled in KDE3 or is it rather likely to come from a
 problem with my X configuration  ?
