kspread & kword - errors

Something strange seems to be happening with several of my KDE
applications. I am frequently (and repeatedly) getting the error
message:

QTime::setHMS Invalid time -1:-1:-1.000
QTime::setHMS Invalid time -1:-1:-1.000
QTime::setHMS Invalid time -1:-1:-1.000
...

My kspread program will not change cell attributes and my kword won't
change fonts globally - just locally with in a single table cell.
And Konsole had been giving the same error message and behaving very
slowly. These all seemed to run fine, or more than well enough, in
RedHat 7.2, but my recent upgrade to 7.3 seems to have made things
weird. Suggestions? Should I rename the .kde directory and start
over???  I'd appreciate your suggestions.

I'm running:

qt-3.0.3-11
qt2-2.3.1-3
koffice-1.1.1-5
kdebase-3.0.0-12
other kde applications seem to vary from 3.0.0-12 to 3.0.0-4 and up:
kdepasswd-3.0.0-4
kdessh-3.0.0-4
kdict-3.0.0-4
kdf-3.0.0-4
kdvi-3.0.0-5
And:
[/usr/bin]$ rpm -qa kernel
kernel-2.4.18-3
kernel-2.4.18-17.7.x		(I shouldn't have two of these, should I?)
[/usr/bin]$ rpm -V kernel
.M......   /dev/shm
.M......   /dev/shm

Argh...
Carole
