kde-cvs startup problem

hi kde's ,


i installed kde from cvs to /opt/kdecvs, added it to /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession and 
added the new session in Kcontrol --> system ----> login manager ---> 
sessions .
i don't get the new entry in the login manager. how can i start the new kde ? 

to i need to change the KDEDIR variable ? if yes, how do i do that ?
anything else i might want to look at ?

another thing : is it better to use the cvs version with a different user then 
the default user i am working with normally ?

please help !
