Alarms don't work

I'm trying to get a .wav file to play for an alarm using korganizer.  It 
won't play the file no matter what.  I am also having the same problem 
with Evolution.  Aren't these the kind of things that should just simply 
work?  My sound works fine in any other program.  Anyone know what the 
problem might be?  I'm using a freshly installed copy of SuSE 8.0.  I 
had the same problem with SuSE 7.3 with kde 2.2 and kde 3.  I thought 
the clean install might fix whatever the problem is but it didn't.  Can 
any one help?
