Well, yes, but I last saved konsole back in KDE2, and there it was getting the 
size right.  But it has been so long since I did it that I'd forgotten what 
I'd done.

Hmmm.  It solved it until I logged off and back on, and then it was back.
Maybe I need to save a session after doing it?  I'll play around with it; in 
any case it looks like you are on to something here.
