No. But my colleagues are using the same system with 3D enabled and a 
Matrox MGA G550 AGP. Also without system freezes.

I updated via YaST Online Update. The RPM is for example available at
ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/update/8.0/x1
