If you don't have: "/dev/ttyS4" then your problem isn't that you need to 
make it.  You probably have: "devfs" which is a virtual device file 
system.  You need to change a configuration file to add devices.

Also, if you are using KPPP, you need to make the alias/link: 
"/dev/modem" to point to the device you are using.  As I understand it, 
you have tried this with the link command but it didn't work.  With: 
"devfs" you also need to add this to the configuration file.
