Problem with erratic font sizes

Could be because X tries to read the screen dimensions from the monitor on 
startup and calculates the dpi from that. If it can't get the dimensions for 
any reason (bad monitor or just because the monitor isn't up and running at 
the time) it seems to default to 75dpi. The 'fix' is to specify the screen 
dimensions in the "Monitor" section of XF86Config by including a line like
  DisplaySize  320 240
The dimensions are in mm. and those shown here are for a 17" screen.
