Weird thing in kate

Hi

I noticed a very weird thing in kate:

If I set up XFree-4.2.1 not to use DRI, the cursor in kate goes on blinking 
when I move it quickly. But if I enable DRI, when I move the cursor in kate, 
it stays black until I release the arrow key (which is the normal behaviour).

Why does enabling/disabling DRI change the behaviour of the cursor in kate ?

PS: I have an ATI Radeon Mobility M6.
