Hello David,

Your best bet for a definitive answer is to ask whoever closed the bug 
(ossi at kde.org in this case; he's KDM's maintainer I believe).

If you know how to get around the problem by editing the code, then go ahead, 
that's the beauty of having the sources :-)

Please post ossi's answer here so that Ivens and others can also benefit from 
it.

Updating glibc would also seem to be a choice, but perhaps overkill if you've 
got no other reason to do so.
