I have that problem with WAV files but OGG files work fine (KDE-3.0.2 
CVS built from source on RH 7.3).

Are you using the actual Mandrake RPMS for libao, libogg, & libvorbis? 
Or, did you build them from source?  You did install: "libao", didn't 
you? :-)

Sorry, I'm not up on what comes in Mandrake 8.2, but I presume that it 
came with KDE-3.0.x.
