kdm chooser setup

I was just wondering.. I'm not sure of the real answer to
your question.. I've been trying to use XDM for logins..
but it never starts kde after I login. It seems to ignore
the session variable setting in the config file (which
is set to Xsession, it always executes the failSafe variable.

I was unable to get KDM to offer me a login screen remotlly
however.

I'm sure I'm using kdm, which I believe uses a lot of xdm's 
configuration files.  At least, changes to /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc 
affect my environment.
